Five rounds a year, from the crabgrass pre-emergent in April to the winterizer in November, each one priced from the grass we measure.
Granular fertilizer
A lawn on the Front Range grows in clay soil, through a dry summer and a sudden fall. Each round below is timed to one of those, rather than to a date on the calendar.
The five rounds
- Early spring. Slow-release fertilizer and a crabgrass pre-emergent, as the soil warms in April.
- Late spring. Fertilizer and broadleaf weed control, for the dandelions and clover that came up anyway.
- Summer. A light slow-release feeding and spot weed control, gentle enough for a lawn under heat and watering limits.
- Early fall. Fertilizer and broadleaf weed control, when weeds are taking food down to their roots and die best.
- Late fall. A winterizer, which the roots store over winter for the spring green-up.

What it costs
A round costs 1.3 times the weekly mow of the same lawn, so a lawn that pays the mowing minimum pays a round. A bigger lawn is priced on the grass we measure. All five rounds and a season of weekly mowing come together on the Lawn Season Plan.
